Hello ! I'm Kate.
I'm the author THE STRANDING (Shortlisted Costa First Novel Award 2021, Winner East Anglian Book Awards Prize for Fiction) and
THIS FAMILY, which was published on May 11th 2023.

I am currently writing (what I hope will be) my third novel and adapting THE STRANDING for the screen with my co-writer Afua Hirsch for Fremantle.
I also host a podcast called NOVEL EXPERIENCE where I chat to authors, from across form and genre, all at different stages in their careers, who generously give an insight into how they write, why they write and their journeys to, through and beyond publication.

Before all of that I worked as an actor (and event and theatre producer, yoga teacher, shop-keeper, waitress...). I trained in acting at Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art and was a founding ensemble member of award-winning theatre company The Faction. I also had my own production company The Curious Room. My previous writing highlights before turning to fiction included adapting Lorca for the stage, writing short films and plays and self-publishing a cookbook of the recipes I developed for my little shop on Northcote Road, Dandelion.
I was born in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, where I grew up in the countryside as the eldest of four siblings. I lived in South London for the best part of the last two decades (living briefly in Australia and USA) but recently returned to East Anglia. I am mum to a 3 year old as a solo parent by choice.
